Untraced until acquired by Dudley Snelgrove (dead by 1992), whose estate sold it at Sotheby’s on 19 November 1992, lot 340, to the owner in 2005.

The label in Towne’s hand has been cut down along the top edge (the “P” of “Pare” is truncated). It is likely that the inscription was originally longer and included the title of the drawing, as others do.
The view seems to be of an imaginary landscape in the style of Gaspar Dughet, of the same general type as FT794. Towne’s original (FT802) is known only through this copy.
The identity of Marianne Pare is unknown.
