Comment

This is clearly a copy after a lost Towne view of the Mer de Glace, similar to but distinct from the version Towne made for the Cliffords (FT573), but perhaps based on a common source work from 1781 (FT383). A date about that time, of the mid-1790s, is also consistent with 1796, the date of this work.
