A sketch of Walensee is now lost but was copied by John White Abbott (FT830) and was probably drawn on paper from the small sketchbook that Towne used in Switzerland. It shows a town on the shore from a position high up in the rocks. Because of the high viewpoint, it is more likely that the town is Weesen at the west end of the lake, seen from the more easily accessible southern side of Walensee, rather than Walenstadt in the east, seen from the northern shore.
