At the 1762 Society of Artists exhibition in 1762 Towne showed this painting with a companion, FT003. It was probably the same picture that he sold at the auction organised by Langford on 23 February 1763, where it was chosen as lot 1, “A Landscape and Figures”. This was estimated at £3 6s. 4d. but only sold for £2 2s.
