Comment
Commissioned by 2nd Viscount Courtenay and sold by his son, 3rd Viscount Courtenay, at Christie’s on 15 February 1817 was a group of “Capital Loose Drawings by Towne”. Lot 4, View looking towards Star Cross and Exmouth ditto, went for £1 to Lind. The drawing that probably served as Towne’s study for this work survives (FT136).
