Comment

The attribution of this painting to Towne relies chiefly on its relationship to another painting at Pencarrow (FT060), whose author is clearly the same, rather than from its own internal characteristics. No other painting by Towne is known that is so wholly given over to built structures, which makes comparisons very difficult.
