Provenance
Herbert Milling of Squire Gallery visited Judith Merivale in 1933 and was “very keen” to buy certain works, including this one described by Merivale in a letter to Paul Oppé dated 19 November 1933: “Another monochrome sketch he wd like is a large one 14½ x 21½ [368 x 546 mm] no signature or name or number Does not look like Towne – No pen work. Castle on a lake, figures in foreground and boats. You will hardly remember it probably.” Possibly it could be a Lake Geneva work.
