The existence of three versions of this composition constitutes strong circumstantial evidence that a common source once existed, in a sketch made in 1781 on the journey from Rome to England. Nothing is known of it, although judging by the later versions it was on the C&I HONIG paper on which he made an equivalent view of the town of Lugano (FT346).
