It is unlikely that the extant monochrome sketch depicting the town and lake of Lugano (FT346) was exhibited in 1805, which means that another work, now untraced, was probably exhibited. It may well have been a version of FT346, in which case it was probably not drawn in 1781, but later on (for instance, Towne’s version dated 1787 survives at FT536).
